KITZ improved efficiency and user satisfaction by improving SAP UI/UX using Liquid UI

Background

Since its founding in 1951, KITZ have provided approximately 90,000 types of products to 18 countries around the world in the manufacture and sale of valves and other fluid control equipment.

When SAP ERP6.0 was introduced, about 80% was used as standard, add-ons were limited to 205, operated in 1 instance, by standardizing, they have realized quick management decisions by grasping the integration of accounting periods and SCM information (production, inventory, cost status, etc.) in real time.

However, problems such as poor operability peculiar to SAP remained. KITZ solved these problems with Liquid UI.

Challenge

  • Obstruction of recognition by displaying items and tabs unnecessary for business
    • Cause: Since the standard function of SAP is used, items and tabs that are not used are displayed on the purchase order registration change (ME22N) and order slip registration screens (VA01).
    • Effect: Displaying unnecessary items and tabs for business and operations for transitioning between multiple tabs hinder the user's recognition, which has created a situation where input operations take time and erroneous input is likely to occur.
  • Operational complexity due to the large number of screen transitions
    • Cause: Since the standard function of SAP is used, multiple tabs and screens must be transitioned and operated to complete one task such as purchase order registration change (ME22N) or prototype registration (CJ20N).
    • Effect: Since there are many screen transitions, it is difficult to recognize, it takes time, and it is difficult to explain to other people. It was difficult to select the purchase order type in the purchase order screen, and it was easy to make a mistake just by selecting the expense purchase.
  • Difficulty in operating the add-on screens
    • Cause: There is an add-on screens that lists exception messages in purchase registrations (ME21N) and production orders (CO02), but it had to be processed in another transaction screens to handle the exception.
    • Effect: Complicated operations such as re-entry and copy & paste were required to process the data in the exception message list such as purchase slip number and WBS number on another transaction screens.

Solution

  • Liquid UI for SAP GUI has reduced the operation that took 5 to 7 minutes on average to about 3 minutes by deleting items and tabs that are unnecessary for business and improving the screen recognition of the user. Also for the transaction of prototype registration (CJ20N), they were able to reduce the operation from 20 minutes to 3 minutes.
  • Liquid UI for SAP GUI can change also the add-on screen, and when selecting the line to change in the add-on screen where the list is displayed, unlike the conventional screen that required many screen transitions, the user interface was changed to display only items are necessary for processing on the left side of the screen. This made it easier for users to recognize, and by the purchase order change (ME22N) and the manufacturing instruction (CO02), it was possible to reduce the time by 2 hours or more each per day, about 5 hours or more in total per day, and prevent also erroneous input.
  • KITZ have connected to SAP in HANA Enterprise Cloud via Liquid UI Server installed in AWS. The scripts are stored in SAP web repository and, at run time, run in the memory of Liquid UI Server, so it runs as fast as a normal SAP transactions.

Results

  • Processes Optimized : VA01, VA02, VA03, ME21N, ME22N, CO02, CJ20N, add-ons
  • 2,680 hours reduction per year in 5 departments
  • Annual cost reduction of 8,376,000 JPY
  • Improved user satisfaction by improving UI/UX efficiency
  • Realized development, Go-Live, and in-house development in less than half a year

Next Steps

KITZ received script creation training from ITOCHU Techno-Solutions Corporation (CTC), which sold Liquid UI, and is currently developing scripts in-house, and is considering applying Liquid UI to their other transactions in the future.

Also, since Liquid UI Server is used, they are considering using SAP not only on Windows PCs but also on mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.
