Fairfax Water improves revenue and data integrity by mobilizing and customizing SAP PM using Liquid UI


Background

Fairfax Water is a leading water county in the Northern Virginia region. It is one of the three major water providers in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. It serves 171 million gallons of water to nearly 2 million residents every day. It aspires to uphold its vision to remain customer focused while helping to sustain the high quality of life and economic state of the region.


Challenge

  • Time-consuming paper-based procedures because of a desktop system.
    • Cause: There was a limitation to the availability of the data because of a ´wired-only´ SAP system, which made the maintenance personnel to rely heavily on paper printouts and paper entries for work order details.
    • Effect: The paper-based procedures were tedious and labor-intensive. Moreover, the data was unreliable due to the fact that the handwritten entries on the paper needed to be transferred back to SAP manually.
  • Outdated processes for storing data affecting employee productivity.
    • Cause: The service notification data was recorded on a spreadsheet which was not updated periodically.
    • Effect: The absence of real-time visibility to service data hampered the efficiency of users and furthermore resulted in unmanaged and unorganized data affecting users productivity.
  • Slow, tedious and inaccurate SAP data entry were causing revenue loss.
    • Cause: Service personnel used paper notes to track time confirmation details. At the end of the day, these details were manually transferred from paper to SAP.
    • Effect: The inaccuracy of a manual procedure for tracking precise time details impacted the county revenue and affected billing order details.
