Graybar, one of the 500 largest companies in the US is a leading distributor of superior and prime electrical, communications and data networking products. Spread over 290 locations across the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico, the company stocks and supplies products from thousands of manufacturers.


  • Inconvenient and complicated process of handling quotes, orders, and inquiries
    • Cause: Graybar receives the request for 9,500 quotes each day. While formulating quotes, users had a hard time decoding line item data and navigating through records.
    • Effect: Productivity stumbled since the users had to search for information and strive to operate header and line items data along with various other tabs and fields.
  • Transaction intensive process along with scattered data and complicated functionality
    • Cause: More than 4000 employees engaged in managing sales and distribution activities each day. Assignments including managing sales orders and receiving payment receipts with the standard SAP system were tedious.
    • Effect: Inaccurate shipment information and material over-handling resulted in low inventory.
  • Lack of automated processes gave rise to poor order-to-cash KPIs
    • Cause: Graybar obtains nearly 17,000 orders in a day, most of which are to be delivered the next day. While creating a sales order, it is necessary for the SD users to check the material availability, stock location, and if the order is to be sent from multiple locations or directly from the manufacturer.
